William McCulloch, Maybole

Here's another "accidental" eBay purchase to share with you. Originally I assumed it was the same firm but now I'm not so sure. This William McCulloch having his firm in Maybole, South Ayrshire, Scotland. I do love it and wonder if there can be many others like it given it was probably used like a business card or advertising flyer. Any information greatly received especially if this is the same McCulloch from "Wales & McCulloch" in London.

I found more examples of this item, apparently they are "service discs" which I'm assuming would be included when you had your watch serviced.

    Hi, Nice find. William was my second great grandfather. 1867–1933
    BIRTH 05 MAY 1867 • Kirkoswald, Ayrshire DEATH 1933. His son (my great grandfather) was also a watchmaker and also called William. He fought in WW1 and ended up in Bridgwater, Somerset.

    I think it is unlikely that there is any connection to wales though.

      Oh fantastic! Thanks for those additional details. Seems to be a long tradition of McCulloch's in Maybole. I've been spending some time today researching the line more and found your tree on Ancestry :)

Catharine Waugh McCulloch

  Yet another eBay alert  opened up a new branch of research this week. Catharine Waugh McCulloch  (1862 -1945) was an American lawyer, suffragist, and reformer. She actively lobbied for women's suffrage at the local, state, and national levels as a leader in the Illinois Equal Suffrage Association, Chicago Political Equality League, and National American Woman Suffrage Association. She was the first woman elected Justice of the Peace in Illinois. Catharine married Frank Hathorn McCulloch, a 3rd generation American Scot. His great, great grandfather was Hathorn McCulloch (1773-1859) who was born in Glasserton, Wigtownshire, Scotland and emigrated to America in 1802.
